I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving! I must say that I am pretty happy that well finally got a full 5 day week! We accomplished so much! We started our corn unit and learned about writing informational reports. We played a Silk Road game, took a science quiz and practiced multiplying decimals.
STEAM NIGHT NOVEMBER 30th from 1630-1830. HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE! I'll be running the coding table.
We also decided to have a "Going Away, End of Unit, Winter Break" party all about CORN! Once the idea "popped" up we could stop coming up with ideas. The party will be December 14th, and students and parents are invited to come and bring a corn related snack. Here are a few items the students came up with: popcorn, corn bread, cream corn, corn chowder, corn dogs, corn chips, corn salsa, and candy corn! Send me an email if you're able to send something corny!
A new scholastic catalog was passed out today. There is a link to Scholastic right here and our class code is: TRVLD
I am always working to improve the flow and feeling of community in class. Next week, I will add a few new elements to our behavior management plan that are designed to hold students more accountable for their behavior. The students can fill you in next week!
Here's what's going on next week:
Language Arts: Read informational texts and begin our informational reports.
Math: practice multiplying decimals with the area model (shown below).

Social Studies: Start a new unit- "Cooperation and Conflict." This unit will discuss the cooperation and conflict that existed among the American Indians and between the Indian nations and the new settlers. I anticipate intense feelings as information about broken treaties and massacres are included in the content. If anyone has vast knowledge of this area and would like to come talk to the class, please let me know. We would love to have you!
Science: We will learn about the respiratory system through reading and investigation.
