Hello Everyone!
Parent Teacher conferences are November 8th and 9th! I will send home the conference times on Monday. I will also send home yearbook order forms on Monday.
You may have noticed that I have not been sending homework packets home. We tried them and they didn't really meet the needs of our class. The students really like projects so I will assign more projects to complete at home now that the students are used to researching and citing properly. Students should be reading for at least 20 minutes everyday. Math will be assigned as needed and I will try to have math as an online assignment through Khan Academy as much as possible.
Next week we will reflect on quarter 1 and make goals for quarter 2. My goal to share with the class is to always have an "at home" project assigned. I am excited to see what goals they come up with!
Here's what's going on in class:
Language Arts: We've been reading myths and legends from different cultures this week and the students really love them! The class started their rough draft realistic fiction stories and we will work on our drafts next week. We will add some interesting dialogue and character descriptions to our stories and then start the editing process the next week.
Math: We took the unit 2 test today and will spend the first part of next week going over the test.
Unit 3 is about developing understanding and fluency with decimal operations through multiplication and division. I will send the TWO tri-folds for parents when the unit begins via email.
Social Studies: The explorers research projects are looking so great! I will grade the rough draft and map on Monday.
Science: We've been growing wheat seeds in class. Some are in clear bags and others are in black bags. Ask your student what differences they noticed between the two!
